Tourism Minister: 2025 Tourism Sector Performance Exceeds National Targets

Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, announced that the tourism sector’s performance in 2025 exceeded national targets. In a meeting with Commission VII DPR in Jakarta, she reported that international tourist arrivals reached 13.98 million by November 2025, marking a 10.44% year-on-year increase. The full-year figures are projected to hit 15.3 million, surpassing the government’s target of 15 million.

About 72% of all international tourists come from key markets targeted by the Ministry of Tourism. Malaysia was the largest contributor, accounting for around 17% of the total. Widiyanti highlighted that these results reflect the success of the government’s marketing strategy, contributing to increased tourism revenues. Tourism revenues reached $13.82 billion in the first three quarters of 2025, a 9.42% increase from the same period the previous year.

Average spending per tourist arrival was approximately $1,259, exceeding the planned target of $1,220. Furthermore, the surplus of inbound over outbound tourism indicates Indonesia’s growing appeal on the global stage and the strengthening of the tourism sector’s balance of payments.

Domestic tourism also showed impressive growth, with 1.09 billion trips made from January to November 2025, an 18.95% year-on-year increase. These achievements confirmed the resilience of domestic tourism and its critical role in the economy.

The tourism sector employed a total of 25.91 million people, up by 910,000 from 2024. Tourism investments also saw significant growth, reaching 53.92 trillion rupiahs by the end of the third quarter of 2025, a 52.66% year-on-year increase.

Widiyanti confirmed that 95.92% of the Ministry’s total budget of 1.48 trillion rupiahs was utilized. These accomplishments were made possible by coordinated efforts and support from various parties, strengthening investor confidence in Indonesian tourism.
