Indonesia Aims for 17 Million Foreign Tourists in 2025
Indonesia is actively developing its tourism strategy with optimistic targets to attract 17 million foreign tourists in 2025. According to the Ministry of Tourism, more than 12.75 million foreign visitors have already arrived in the country from January to October 2025. This showcases the recovery of trust in Indonesia’s tourism market, as well as its improving appeal on the international stage.
In 2025, the Ministry of Tourism, led by Deputy Minister Ni Luh Puspa, notes consistent growth in the sector. The number of visitors increased by more than 10 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 11.57 million visits in the same period. Domestic tourism also demonstrated significant numbers, with over 997 million trips, an 18.8% increase from 2024.
Indonesian airports, particularly Soekarno-Hatta, show a surge in passenger movement. From December 15 to 30, 2025, the airport processed around 3 million passengers, a 4% increase compared to the previous year.
The Ministry plans to continue improving infrastructure and services. Cultural tourism, gastronomy, marine destinations, and wellness tourism will be focal points. These measures aim to boost the country’s appeal and ensure guests have a comfortable and safe visit.
Experts are hopeful that with this positive trend, tourism figures will continue to rise in 2026. The future development hinges on community-based tourism and enhancing the role of local communities in promoting tourism.
