Connectivity: A Key to Indonesia's Tourism Expansion

Starting in 2026, two new charter direct flights aimed at enhancing the accessibility of Indonesia’s regions will be available for travelers. It is anticipated that this will significantly increase the flow of both local and international tourists, thereby positively impacting the region’s economic development.

The province of Central Sulawesi, in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and several private companies, has announced the launch of direct flights Jakarta-Luwuk and Guangzhou-Palu. These flights are set to commence in April and June 2026, respectively, which will enhance access to key tourist destinations within the region.

Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, expressed hope that the new flights will help achieve the ambitious goals set in the national tourism development program, which aims to attract up to 17.6 million foreign visitors in 2026. Simultaneously, improving domestic connectivity will more effectively attract local tourists, further boosting domestic tourism that has already shown a significant growth of 24.8% in 2025.

Leadership in Central Sulawesi also highlights that the region holds immense tourism potential, including natural attractions such as one of the cleanest lakes in Indonesia, Lake Paisu Pok, along with Lokena Island and Tomori Bay. These natural heritage sites could draw a large number of tourists if they are supported with appropriate infrastructure.
