FPCI Warns of Indonesia's Risk of Dependency on the US

Dino Patti Djalal, Founder and Chairman of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), highlighted the importance of maintaining Indonesia’s foreign policy independence while collaborating with the US. Speaking at an event on geopolitical trends and Indonesia’s foreign policy in 2026, he emphasized the need to minimize political, economic, and security dependencies on the US. According to him, the predominant position of the US in international affairs can significantly impact other countries, necessitating caution for Indonesia. Djalal noted that Indonesia has previously stood up to US pressure by refusing to support the Iraq invasion. His main message was that Indonesia should aim for equitable partnerships, particularly in trade and security.
