Indonesia Bids to Host the 2028 Futsal World Cup

Indonesia has officially entered the bid to host the 2028 Futsal World Cup, following recent changes in tournament formats by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Indonesia’s strengthened efforts to promote futsal internationally.
As Indonesia aims to play a significant role in the futsal world, it must demonstrate its capability to host and organize the tournament at a high level. The local futsal federation (FFI) will focus not only on organizational aspects but also on preparing the national team for serious international challenges.
Looking ahead, Papua will host the Asian Futsal Championship in 2026, which will serve as a critical trial before the world-level bid. The experience of hosting the Asian Championship will be an essential part of FFI’s preparation for a larger-scale event.
FFI intends to attract the attention of both domestic and international fans, which should increase interest in the sport and introduce more people to the futsal culture in Indonesia. These steps are aimed at creating a favorable environment for the growth and popularization of this discipline, which organizers hope will thrive and gain more recognition internationally.
In addition to official announcements, FFI plans to hold meetings with other Asian futsal federations to coordinate and find common ground on important issues related to the sport’s development. The main goal of these meetings will be to bring futsal into major sporting events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. This ambitious plan demonstrates how seriously Indonesia is committed to developing futsal and integrating it into the agenda of major international competitions.
