Minister of Finance: Indonesian Economy Could Expand Until 2033

February 16, 2026

Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa predicts that the country’s economy could remain in an expansionary phase until 2033. Delivering a speech at the University of Indonesia’s graduation ceremony on February 14, 2026, Purbaya highlighted that the national economy has returned to the growth trajectory after the slowdown in 2024. The government is increasing liquidity through base money injection to boost credit and business activity.

Currently, economic growth exceeds 5.3 percent and is approaching 6 percent, creating opportunities for broader job creation in upcoming years. Purbaya stressed that the economy’s structure, underpinned by domestic demand, renders it resilient against global slowdowns.

However, he reminded that growth around 5 percent is not enough to transform Indonesia into a developed country. Achieving 7-8 percent growth is essential for faster development, which requires maintaining stable fiscal and monetary policies and enhancing national competitiveness.
