Building Indonesian Hajj Economic Sovereignty

Indonesia, as the country with the largest Hajj pilgrimage community in the world, seeks a more meaningful role in the global Hajj and Umrah economic ecosystem. Under the management of BPKH and BPKH Limited, Indonesia is working to shift its status from a mere consumer of services to a strategic player within this ecosystem. Through investments in infrastructure, hotels, and transport systems, Indonesia aims not only to reduce costs for pilgrims but also to return capital to its own economy. Among the objectives is the enhancement of the commercial potential of hotels and optimization of catering services during the Armuzna phase. These initiatives are supported by legislative reforms aimed at streamlining financial management related to Hajj. Economic sovereignty in Hajj means not just the commercialization of religious rites but the professionalization and efficiency of management, allowing substantial income to flow back into the Indonesian economy. This will not only improve the pilgrims’ experience but also strengthen the national economy.
