Legislator: Indonesian Tourism Aiming for Zero Accidents by 2026
Indonesian legislator Mujakkir Zuhri emphasized the need to shift the country’s tourism focus from quantity to quality. He believes that by 2026, tourism in Indonesia should become safer and more memorable with zero accidents. He highlighted that the recent tragic incident of water sports coach Fernando Martin Carreras drowning in Labuan Bajo should serve as a lesson for all industry stakeholders. Mujakkir noted that to enhance the attractiveness of Indonesian tourism, the quality of services offered needs to be improved, and new strategies should be implemented. This includes initiatives in the areas of wellness, ecotourism, gastronomy, culture, and digital adoption. It was also noted that airfare needs to be more affordable, as high costs often deter tourists. Ultimately, to remain competitive, there is a need for more extensive use of technology and strategic planning to boost the economy and attract more tourists, both local and international.
