In the first half of 2025, Indonesia achieved record figures in the tourism sector. According to data presented by Tourism Minister Widiyanti, the number of foreign tourists visiting the country from January to June reached 7.05 million, marking a 9.44% year-on-year growth. Simultaneously, the number of domestic tourists also increased, reaching 105.12 million, up by 25.93% compared to the previous year.

These positive results were made possible through effective collaboration among various ministries and agencies. Widiyanti emphasized the importance of synergy, highlighting that coordinated efforts have contributed to the successful implementation of national tourism programs. Statistics indicate that international tourists once again outnumber nationals, although domestic tourism continues to show impressive growth.

Despite overall successes, Widiyanti pointed out a decline in hotel occupancy rates by 3.54 percentage points, which she attributes to the growing popularity of alternative accommodations. Conversely, the number of occupied hotel rooms increased by 11.53% compared to the first half of 2024.

The Ministry of Tourism actively supports President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programs, including the ‘Koperasi Merah Putih’ project aimed at developing tourist villages. This pilot project will cover 80 villages and is intended to foster development in over 6,000 villages in total.

In the context of global uncertainty, the tourism sector’s high resilience continues to contribute significantly to the country’s economy, strengthening its stability. Widiyanti added that the development of alternative accommodations, such as villas, might be a positive trend but also poses potential issues if these properties lack proper licensing and registration.

Thus, despite global challenges, Indonesian tourism demonstrates its adaptability and remains a vital component of the national economy.
