Patrick Yip: Technology Must Be Directly Connected to Business Value

In Indonesia’s current startup ecosystem, there is a significant drop in investment activity compared to global trends, especially in artificial intelligence (AI). Patrick Yip, a founding partner at Intudo Ventures, argues that this necessitates a return to basic business principles: efficiency, profitability, and real technological value. At the 2026 Fortune Indonesia Summit in Jakarta, he highlighted that the 97% decline in funding from 2021 to 2025 forces startups to find new paths to profitability. Yip believes that in the current economic climate, alongside the rising interest in AI in the U.S., Indonesian companies should focus on leveraging AI as an enabling tool. One of the key issues remains the underutilization of full technology potential, often due to asset underutilization. He stressed the importance of effectively applying technologies to transform them from costs to assets, especially in the low-margin consumer market.
