Positive Energy from Balikpapan: Optimism for Indonesia's Energy Independence under President Prabowo

The visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Balikpapan marked high expectations and trust from the citizens in the country’s progress, particularly in the energy sector. The warm reception from Balikpapan residents reflects the national confidence in the progress under new leadership.

A significant event was the inauguration of the integrated energy infrastructure project under the Pertamina Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) in Balikpapan. This project, valued at IDR 123 trillion, is a crucial step towards bolstering Indonesia’s energy independence, increasing production capacity from 260,000 to 360,000 barrels of oil per day. It will also lead to the production of cleaner Euro 5 standard fuels.

Such initiatives clearly highlight Indonesia’s ability to manage major international energy projects through collaboration between state enterprises and the government.

In his speech, President Prabowo emphasized that energy and food independence are foundational principles for a sovereign nation. Indonesia’s vast natural resources — from oil and gas to solar energy and water — provide the country with all necessary tools to become sustainable and self-reliant. Prabowo stated that Indonesia can reduce and even eliminate energy imports in the coming years, which strengthens hopes for a bright future for the country.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of proper energy management: it should be transparent and honest governance free from corruption and manipulation. This statement reinforces public confidence that reforms in the energy sector are accompanied by integrative changes.

The inauguration of RDMP Balikpapan was not only a technical milestone but also a symbol of national confidence, reflecting positive changes that lead Indonesia towards energy sovereignty, environmental protection, and strengthening national pride.
