Main Types of Employment in Indonesia as of August 2025

According to the Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia for August 2025, the largest workforce is in the production sector, operating transportation equipment and general labor, accounting for 30.05% of the total employed nationwide. This sector remains a leading contributor to Indonesia’s economy, providing a substantial number of jobs, especially amidst the growth of industry and transportation infrastructure.
The agricultural sector, including forestry and fisheries, ranks second in terms of employment, reflecting the significance of the agro-sector in the national economy. About 27.19% of the workforce is employed in this segment, indicating the continued impact of traditional economic models.
Trade also plays a critical role, with 20.63% of the workforce engaged in this area. This sector is seeing growth driven by increased demand for retail services and consumer goods, stimulating further development.
Of particular interest is the group of professionals and technicians, making up 7.5% of the jobs. In the context of the digital economy and increasing demands on specialists, this category shows stable growth, confirming society’s shift towards more advanced technologies.
The least workforce is involved in leadership roles and administrative management — less than 2%, highlighting the issue of a lack of qualified managers in the country.
