Indonesia and WIPO Strengthen Intellectual Property Partnership

On February 18, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland, the Indonesian delegation, led by Hermansyah Siregar, Director General of Intellectual Property (IP), met with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the strategic partnership between WIPO and Indonesia in developing an IP system oriented towards sustainable development.

The meeting discussed key initiatives such as strengthening national capacity and Indonesia’s role in global IP governance. Indonesia emphasized its commitment to using IP not only as a legal protection instrument but also as a driver for economic growth and innovation.

With congratulations to Daren Tang on his re-election as Director General of WIPO, Indonesia reiterated its commitment to continuing the established cooperations. Hermansyah Siregar affirmed the importance of international collaboration in accelerating knowledge-based economic transformation.

A key part of the dialogue was the request to WIPO to recognize the Indonesia Cultural Collection as an International Depository Authority, which is strategically important for strengthening the national biotechnology ecosystem.

WIPO expressed readiness to support Indonesia’s initiatives, including participation in the Hague Agreement, potentially expanding economic opportunities for Indonesia’s creativity in the global market. This partnership affirms Indonesia’s role as an important player in IP diplomacy and strengthens the commitment of both parties to make IP a cornerstone of sustainable development.
