At the very beginning of 2026, Indonesia faced a severe challenge as five regions were hit by devastating floods. These incidents ranged from the city of Cirebon in West Java province to Jayawijaya Regency in Papua Pegunungan province. The most affected was Cirebon City, where the floods impacted 701 families, or 2,180 people, damaging 701 homes. In Central Kalimantan, Barito Timur Regency saw 200 families or 587 people affected, with 200 homes underwater, and water levels continued to rise, posing a threat to residents. In Barito Selatan Regency, the situation was even more dramatic: 4,251 families or 13,392 people were impacted, and 74 houses were damaged. The water continued to linger here as well, rising to 70 centimeters. Although Tabalong Regency also experienced flooding, affecting 1,351 families or 5,277 individuals, the number of affected homes also reached 1,351. In Papua Pegunungan province, an earthquake and flood affected about 75 families or 300 people, forcing them to seek shelter.
