Three Projects Become Finalists in Nusantara Cultural Center Contest at IKN

Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara (IKN), continues to cement its role as a cultural epicenter. Recently, the Otorita IKN held an architectural design competition for the Nusantara Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) and the Indonesian Urban Designers Association (IARKI). Three projects made it to the final stage after a rigorous selection process from an initial pool of 35 entries. The finalists are PKN-0013, PKN-0042, and PKN-0063. The competition aims to produce a concept that not only has aesthetic appeal but also serves as a platform for social interaction, reflecting Indonesia’s ethnic diversity and biological wealth. The first of the finalists, PKN-0013 ‘Symphony of the Nation’s Blooms’, is characterized by a dynamic circular geometry and predominantly uses wood and terracotta elements. The second project, PKN-0042 ‘A Tale Woven by the Jungle’, offers an organic and futuristic structure with a roof resembling the woven patterns of traditional Indonesian textiles. These projects represent a renewed commitment to preserving the nation’s cultural heritage.
