In December 2025, a grand event took place in Jakarta dedicated to the Anugerah Kebudayaan Indonesia (AKI) 2025 awards. The Indonesian Ministry of Culture, under the leadership of Minister Fadli Zon, presented honors to cultural masters, researchers, protectors, and promoters of Indonesian cultural heritage. Awards were presented in several categories: media companies, children’s initiatives, indigenous communities, writers, and more. The ceremony at Ciputra Artpreneur marked the culmination of long-standing efforts by the ministry to enhance cultural education and preserve traditional arts.

In his address, Minister Fadli emphasized that AKI is not merely a formality; it is recognition of the vital role played by all participants in the country’s cultural ecosystem. “The work of these masters and custodians of culture forms the foundation for our nation’s future,” he stated. Special attention was given to areas affected by natural disasters. The minister noted the importance of continuing support for cultural initiatives in regions like Sumatra and Aceh, including efforts to restore and maintain established cultural traditions.

The ceremony concluded the three-stage AKI project. Over these years, the project operated based on strict selection procedures, ensuring transparency and objectivity in evaluating and awarding honors. The main focus was on long-term achievements, contributions to cultural heritage development, and its promotion on the international stage.

Among the noteworthy awardees were representatives from traditional arts master classes, guardians of local customs, and innovators in cultural education. For instance, representatives from the traditional Sitolu Hae Horbo community in Sumatra were recognized for their efforts to preserve and develop local culture, influencing neighboring regions.

By conducting such comprehensive work to popularize and support cultural initiatives, the Ministry of Culture is prepared to further assist in the integration and preservation of Indonesian cultural identity. These efforts will not only ensure recognition of the past but also lay the groundwork for future generations who become the custodians and promoters of Indonesia’s incredible cultural heritage.
