Significant changes are coming to Indonesia’s passport system. By 2027, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services plans to introduce a single passport document nationwide. This decision aims to simplify the process of obtaining and utilizing passports for all citizens. According to the plan, the new passport will be valid for the holder’s lifetime, eliminating the need to change the number upon renewal. The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, stated that moving away from various passport categories will avoid confusion among the public. The new document is expected to include electronic elements, enhancing its security and convenience. This step is part of a broader strategy to improve public services and protect the rights of Indonesian citizens. To implement the new system, both legislative and technical bases need preparation, along with spending the remaining stock of old blanks. It is crucial that the changes ensure data protection, legal certainty, and accessibility of services for all citizens.
