PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia, or InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), launched a trial of free electric buses on November 13, 2025, at The Nusa Dua, Bali. This effort was made possible through collaboration between ITDC and Kalista, the technology provider and operator for the test. The introduction of electric buses is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly transportation in the tourism sector.

As a world-class resort, The Nusa Dua adopts various sustainability initiatives like desalination plants, LNG, solar panels, and internal electric vehicles. The addition of electric buses adds a new layer to this strategy, supporting tourist mobility. ITDC The Nusa Dua’s General Manager, I Made Agus Dwiatmika, stated that this trial is proof of the region’s commitment to reducing emissions. He remarked, “We aim to make The Nusa Dua a living laboratory for green destinations in Indonesia, where innovation and tourism development go hand in hand.”

Kalista is employing a technology-based approach to this test, integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) for real-time fleet monitoring, including energy consumption, operational location, and driving behavior. This model increases system efficiency, intelligence, and lowers emissions.

This initiative underscores the significance of sustainable tourism, offering tourists quiet, comfortable, and emission-free transport. It also bolsters Bali’s position as a serious player in sustainable tourism development, which can be a differentiating factor for hotels and other stakeholders.
