Indonesia's Strategic Moves: War, Food, and Technology

2 min read

The potential onset of World War III raises concerns globally. Major powers like the US, Russia, and China are striving to fortify their economic positions. In this geopolitical play, energy resources and technology are pivotal. Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, faces the necessity of choosing its developmental path amidst political instability.

Indonesia has long adhered to an active neutrality policy, allowing it not to be tied to any specific block. However, its political and economic ties with various countries might force it to make a choice. Joining BRICS has opened new opportunities but also the risk of political confrontation with the Western countries.

One of the most critical tasks remains food security. The country’s self-sufficiency requires rational resource utilization. In the face of potential external threats, this takes on strategic significance. Issues related to agriculture compel the government to seek solutions to improve the resilience of the food system.

Another important aspect is technological independence. Progress in internet connectivity and AI integration is becoming critically important. The future of technological leadership, especially amidst likely cyber threats, will determine Indonesia’s place in the world. However, this requires significantly increasing investments in technology and improving internet speeds to keep up with world leaders.

For future generations, developing national technological and scientific bases is necessary, creating favorable conditions for using new technologies without serious social upheavals, such as unemployment.

Indonesia’s political and economic strategy requires continuing a policy of flexibility and neutrality while implementing internal reforms to strengthen its sovereignty and adapt to new challenges.
