A recent study by Lingkaran Survei Indonesia (LSI) led by Denny JA revealed that 66.1% of the public are against electing governors through local legislatures. This result reflects the opinions of a majority of the population, including various age, geographical, and religious groups. Generation Z shows an especially high level of disagreement, with 84% of respondents. LSI notes that after two decades of direct elections, most people have developed a preference for this democratic process. At the same time, the institute calls for improvements in election quality, including the election process, candidate selection, and oversight.
