Indonesia Ensures D-8 Summit Will Not Address Sensitive Political Issues

During a recent briefing in Jakarta, Indonesia’s Director General for Multilateral Cooperation, Tri Tharyat, assured that the upcoming D-8 Summit will focus on economic and developmental cooperation, avoiding sensitive political topics. This approach stems from past experiences where discussing political issues led to organizational inefficiency.
With Indonesia chairing D-8 until 2027, the focus on steering clear of political debates aims to strengthen economic cooperation among its members. The organization remains committed to practical collaboration and economic development as key for long-term sustainability.
The discussion on initiatives like the creation of special economic zones has shown that not all members are ready for rapid implementation, but Indonesia is facilitating the development of guiding principles for member states’ governmental bodies.
Thus, D-8 continues to serve as a platform for economic cooperation, steering clear of issues that might lead to discord among its participants.
