Indonesia and Turkey Hold First 2+2 Meeting: Strengthening Defense and Security Partnership
Last week, a significant meeting occurred between Indonesia and Turkey in the 2+2 format, involving foreign and defense ministers from both countries. The purpose was to deepen the strategic partnership in defense and security and to discuss global geopolitical issues. The meeting is a continuation of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSC) between Indonesia’s President Prabowo and Turkey’s President Erdogan held last February. The meeting covered various aspects of strategic collaboration, from defense and security to economics and energy. A particular focus was placed on strengthening cooperation in the defense industry, including joint ventures and developments. Beyond bilateral issues, the discussion included international dynamics, including the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, and cooperation in multilateral forums such as the G20 and ASEAN. The significance of the 2+2 format as a high-level diplomatic mechanism, used by Indonesia only with a select number of countries, was emphasized.
