Achmad Hidayat Introduces 'One Line Politics' Concept

Achmad Hidayat, a member of the PDI-P in Surabaya, introduced the ‘One Line Politics’ concept aimed at reforming Indonesia’s party system. He critiques the focus of parties on short-term electoral objectives, advocating for a return to the principles of Pancasila Democracy. The concept aims to establish a merit-based selection system, reduce excessive political influence, and minimize election costs. Hidayat highlights Constitutional Court decisions that remove electoral barriers, enhancing the role of parties in developing leaders. He also insists on direct elections for presidents and regional heads, while maintaining space for independent candidates. This approach intends to create a system focused on deeper democratization and meritocratic leadership development.
