The University of Indonesia has launched a significant initiative to restore balance between humanity and nature. Under the guidance of the Directorate of Culture, the message urges society to rethink its relationship with the environment, especially in light of the ecological disasters that have shaken Sumatra in recent years. Dr. Ngatawi Al Zastrouw, Director of the Directorate of Culture at UI, emphasized the significance of the New Year as a time for personal and social reflection, highlighting that ecological crises demand a reevaluation of human approaches and relationships with nature.

The event included cultural performances and discussions on the role of traditions and cultural heritage in mitigating disaster risks. Leaders from the academic and cultural communities discussed how Indonesian culture can contribute to increased resilience to natural disasters.

Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Prof. Tito Latif Indra, explained that geological and climatic conditions make Indonesia particularly vulnerable to disasters, and proposed integrating modern scientific methods with traditional wisdom to build more sustainable disaster management systems.
