Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture hosted a significant event called ‘Historical Talk,’ aimed at reinforcing the nation’s understanding of its identity amidst global changes. The event brought together historians, academics, researchers, and other cultural communities to discuss and strengthen the perception of Indonesian history. A new book, ‘Indonesian History: The Dynamics of National Building in the Global Flow,’ was presented as a crucial starting point for rethinking Indonesia’s role in world history. The Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, emphasized the importance of an independent authorial tradition in national historiography. He noted that while Indonesia’s history has been extensively described by foreigners, the country needs to be more proactive in shaping its own historical memory. Discussions also covered key historical periods—from the struggle for independence to the development of sciences and culture. As a result of the discussions, the Ministry reaffirmed its intention to continue supporting historical literacy that responds to contemporary challenges.
