Kemenkum Malut: Imlek 2026 as an Opportunity to Strengthen Legal Culture

In Ternate, North Maluku Province, the celebrations surrounding Chinese New Year, Imlek 2577/2026, are not just a cultural event. Budi Argap Situngkir, Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law in North Maluku, stated that Imlek transcends a mere cultural and religious celebration. It is a time to fortify national values, especially amidst ongoing changes in the national legal system, such as the new Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.

Situngkir highlighted that the cultural unity inherent in Imlek celebrations should inspire society towards reforms in the legal system, based on fairness and human rights protection. Imlek showcases that unity can be achieved despite the nation’s diversity.

Moreover, Indonesian Minister of Justice Supratman Andi Agtas noted that the vigor of the Year of the Fire Horse and its symbolism can bring new inspirations and courage necessary for legal reforms. He emphasized the importance of qualities such as decisiveness and consistency in maintaining legal justice.
