Indonesia Expands Visa-Free Access to 88 Countries

Indonesia’s Ministry of Immigration and Corrections has announced an increase in the number of countries offering visa-free entry to Indonesian citizens, now totaling 88. This achievement is attributed to the implementation of a reciprocal immigration policy. Deputy Minister Silmy Karim highlighted that this success is the fruit of diplomacy and consistent application of Immigration Law. Indonesia does not unilaterally offer visa-free access, instead adhering to mutually beneficial terms. This is reflected in the Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011, which states that visa exemption can be granted on the basis of reciprocity and utility. It is also emphasized that the behavior of Indonesians abroad influences international trust in Indonesia. Citizens are strongly advised to adhere to foreign laws to maintain the positive image of the Indonesian passport.
