Hajj 2026: Historic Increase in Women Officers

In 2026, Indonesia is set to implement significant changes in the organization of the Hajj pilgrimage. Under the new policy initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, special attention will be given to vulnerable groups, including women and elderly pilgrims. Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah Affairs, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, emphasized the importance of humanizing the pilgrimage service process, inspired by the message left by Prophet Muhammad during Hajj Wada. This year, the percentage of women among the service personnel will increase to 33%, marking the highest level in the history of Hajj organization in Indonesia. This measure aims to enhance the safety and comfort of female pilgrims, who make up over 55% of Indonesians participating in Hajj. The changes in staff composition are designed to meet the specific needs of female pilgrims, ensuring they receive more respectful and dignified service that aligns with their expectations and needs. Furthermore, the new approach will provide significant support in addressing the challenges faced by elderly pilgrims and women, leading to a more effective and humane organization of Hajj this year.
