Tourism Minister: Domestic Tourism as the Strength of Indonesian Tourism
Indonesia’s Tourism Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, has recently stated that domestic tourists are the true strength of Indonesia’s tourism industry. She made this statement during her visit to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, where she assessed the quality of services provided to tourists during the peak of the New Year holidays.
The Minister emphasized that the visits of Indonesians to local resort areas significantly impact the economy, and this should be fully utilized. In her speech, she highlighted that all tourist destinations in the country should focus on the preferences of domestic tourists to maximize profits.
She shared statistics indicating that in 2025, the number of international tourists arriving in Bali by air reached over 7 million people, an 11% increase from the previous year. However, the number of trips made by domestic tourists decreased to 9.28 million.
The Minister also visited various service points at the airport, interacted with tourists, and listened to their feedback about their trip to Bali, which she said was very important for improving service.
The Tourism Minister plans to reach 1.08 billion domestic tourist trips in 2025 by expanding investments in domestic infrastructure development and improving service quality.
