Indonesian Tourism Sector Shows Strong Growth in 2025

On January 14, 2026, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, announced that the country’s tourism sector demonstrated significant growth throughout 2025. This is reflected in the increase of both international and domestic travelers. In the monthly report presented alongside Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa, it was noted that tourism has become a major driver of positive economic development in the country.

The rapid growth in tourism is attributed to various factors, including government efforts to promote new tourist destinations, infrastructure improvements, and an active ‘Charming Indonesia’ marketing strategy. Significant initiatives have been undertaken to promote ‘green tourism’ and develop unique cultural and natural attractions, which have captured international interest.

Notably, domestic tourism development also played a crucial role. Over the past year, there has been a significant increase in the number of Indonesians choosing domestic travel over foreign trips, attributed to improved quality of local tours and cost affordability.

Government initiatives also contributed to easing visa policies and implementing innovative solutions in commerce, such as advanced booking systems and enhanced tourism security measures. Despite challenges posed by global economic and environmental issues, Indonesia’s tourism sector remains optimistic about the future.

The Minister emphasized the importance of support from the private sector and local communities to ensure sustainable development. Several initiatives are planned to be implemented soon to maintain this momentum and preserve the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
