2025: A Crucial Year for Indonesian Tourism
The year 2025 has been declared a pivotal year for Indonesia’s tourism industry. The Minister of Tourism, Vidiyanti Putri Wardhana, stated that despite global challenges, the country’s tourism sector continues to thrive, contributing significantly to the national GDP. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the number of inbound tourists increased by 10.32% from January to October 2025, reaching 12.76 million visits. It is projected to grow to 15.31 million by the year’s end. Indonesia received 153 international awards, more than doubling the achievements of 2024, including prestigious ‘Michelin Keys’ awards for 33 hotels and resorts. These achievements highlight the high quality and competitive nature of the country’s tourism offerings on the global stage. Furthermore, the Ministry’s efforts to enhance Indonesia’s visibility and appeal internationally included participation in 12 global tourism exhibitions, such as ITB Berlin 2025 and ATM Dubai 2025, attracting additional investment of 53.92 trillion rupiahs and boosting tourism’s foreign exchange earnings to USD 18.50 billion. In sum, tourism continues to be a leading sector in Indonesia’s economy, creating millions of jobs and contributing to sustainable development through training and skills development programs.
