Ahead of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays, the Indonesian government is taking measures to manage the expected surge in travel. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi reported at the cabinet meeting, led by President Prabowo Subianto, that a high level of mobility is anticipated, encompassing nearly half of Indonesia’s population. The greatest movement is expected from densely populated provinces on the island of Java.

The government has prepared support across all transport modes – land, air, and sea. Measures include preparing 31,433 buses, 711 ships, and 368 airplanes. Discounts on fares are also provided to alleviate citizens’ financial burden during the festive season, notably a 20% reduction on 26 toll road sections.

The main focus is on managing the potential passenger surge and extreme weather conditions. Coordination among ministries and state-owned companies remains crucial.

These efforts demonstrate the government’s determination to ensure a safe and efficient transport system amid increased demand and challenging weather conditions. Ensuring reliable infrastructure during the holidays is significant not only for Indonesians but also enhances the country’s image as an attractive destination.
