Indonesian President Urged to Implement DPD Recommendations on Papua Crisis
In light of the crisis involving human rights violations in Papua, various organizations, including Amnesty International Indonesia and the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), have appealed to the Indonesian president to implement the DPD’s recommendations. The situation in Papua has worsened due to ongoing conflicts, resulting in numerous casualties and forcing thousands to flee their homes. The organizations emphasized the need for the application of humanitarian law and called on the government to halt national strategic projects that infringe on the rights of indigenous people. They also suggested the establishment of a Human Rights Commission to investigate violations and create conditions for peaceful conflict resolution.
