Minister of Justice Meets with Editors: Discussing Criminal Code and Assistance
The Minister of Justice of Indonesia, Supratman Andri Agats, held a meeting with chief editors of national media. The discussion focused on reforms in the judicial system, including revisions of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). The Minister emphasized the importance of digital transformation of legal services to improve their accessibility and efficiency. A significant achievement was the increase in legal aid posts, now covering over 76,000 villages nationwide. Another significant step forward was the introduction of intellectual property-based financing to support the creative economy. The ministry aims to use this approach to boost economic growth. The meeting also addressed the complexity of adopting a new criminal code, which consistently generates debate in Indonesia’s multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society.
