KUHAP Bill Officially Enacted into Law
On November 18, 2025, in Jakarta, the bill on the new provisions of the Indonesian Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) was officially enacted. This step was carried out during the eighth plenary session of Indonesia’s House of Representatives’ second session. The Minister of Justice, Supratman Andi Agtas, explained that the update of the Criminal Procedure is an important part of strengthening the national legal system. He emphasized that the drafting process was comprehensive and involved consultations with various stakeholders, including academics, lawyers, law enforcement, and society at large. The new bill provides significant changes to adapt the legal system to modern challenges, such as human rights protection, the digitalization of legal processes, and control through judicial permit mechanisms. New concepts such as plea bargaining and deferred prosecution agreements have been included, along with strengthening the role of advocates and expanding the system of individual justice. These changes aim to create a more equitable and modern system.
