In Jakarta, a tragic incident occurred when a vehicle from the Free Nutritious Meals program collided with elementary school students in North Jakarta. The head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, reported the incident to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, attributing it to the main driver’s poor health. The vehicle was delivering meals as part of the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program and crashed into the school’s fence. Of the 22 affected children and adults, some were discharged after medical examination, but several students remain under treatment. One student with severe facial injuries has undergone a complex operation and is recovering under the care of three doctors. President Prabowo was immediately informed of the incident, showing his involvement in ensuring safe nutrition in educational institutions nationwide. The incident highlights significant concerns about transportation safety and reliability. The Indonesian government now faces the challenge of restructuring this transportation system to prevent future incidents. It’s important to consider the physical condition of drivers and ensure proper training and certification for those involved in such projects, a topic also addressed in the Cabinet meeting. This event raises the issue of the importance of safety and reliability in government social initiatives like MBG. Understanding that such programs can have unforeseen consequences requires the government not only to take preventive measures but also to respond promptly when necessary. The outcome of this situation should be a more reliable and structured policy for safety in supply operations providing meals to public institutions, which will be crucial in maintaining public trust and stabilizing social infrastructure.
