KPK Investigates Extortion by Three Prosecutors
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is intensively investigating allegations of extortion involving three prosecutors from Hulu Sungai Utara District Prosecutor’s Office in South Kalimantan. Recent days have seen active efforts in interrogating witnesses. KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo reported issues with budgetary expenditures that might have been manipulated for substantial illicit collections.
The case began with a sting operation on December 18, 2025, where six individuals were detained, including the head of the prosecutor’s office and their subordinates. Significant amounts of cash were seized, suspected to be linked to extortion practices. Main suspects have been identified and some are cooperating with the investigation.
KPK aims to conclude the investigation soon and bring the case to trial. This case may become exemplary in the fight against corruption among public officials, strengthening oversight over financial operations in government bodies.
