Jumbo: Indonesian Animation Conquers Korea

The film ‘Jumbo’, a fantasy-adventure animation, has become the first Indonesian animated feature film to be shown on big screens in South Korea. The special screening event, organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, took place at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall. ‘Jumbo’s’ production involved renowned Indonesian studios like Visinema Studios and Anami Films. Directed by Ryan Adriandhy, the story follows a boy named Don on a journey to discover his inner strength through magical friendship. Indonesian Ambassador to Korea, Cecep Herawan, emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy through cinema, highlighting that the film carries universal themes of friendship and family. The partnership with the Korean distributor Barunson E&A allows ‘Jumbo’ to move beyond the diplomatic table and reach a wide commercial audience. This collaboration strengthens the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Korea.
