Bappenas and IGCN Accelerate Transition to Circular Economy
The National Development Planning Agency of Indonesia (Bappenas) and the UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN) are working together to accelerate the transition to a circular economy by launching the 2026 Circular Economy Executive Dialogue. Held at the BJ Habibie Building, this forum brought together government representatives, business leaders, and ecosystem partners to discuss strategies for promoting circular economy as a key pillar of the country’s future economic growth.
This transformation is crucial for achieving inclusive growth, increasing national competitiveness, and meeting targets for net-zero emissions by 2060, as well as low-carbon development strategies. Bappenas estimates that implementing a circular economy could contribute up to IDR 638 trillion to the national GDP by 2030 and create over 4.4 million green jobs.
IGCN President YW Junardy emphasized the strategic role of the private sector in pushing for a sustainable economic model transition. He stated that the circular economy is not just an environmental agenda but also a business opportunity that can create long-term value.
The event also saw the launch of the Circular Economy Working Group, a platform for innovation and policy dialogue in the business sector.
Throughout the forum, participants discussed challenges with financing, technology readiness, policy harmonization, and consumer behavior changes, highlighting the indispensable role of business leadership in this transformation.
