Differences Between GCI and Golden Visa in Indonesia

Indonesia has introduced two significant visa programs aimed at the nation’s development: Global Citizen of Indonesia (GCI) and Golden Visa. These programs represent different mechanisms for attracting people and investments. Initiated in January 2026, GCI targets the Indonesian diaspora and former Indonesian citizens. It allows them to return and contribute to the country’s progress. GCI offers a permanent visa with the requirement of registration every five years. In contrast, the Golden Visa, launched in 2024, focuses on attracting foreign investors and talents that can boost economic growth. The Golden Visa is granted for up to 10 years, with the possibility of renewal. To obtain GCI, applicants need only meet minimal investment requirements, whereas the Golden Visa demands investments starting at USD 350,000. Hence, these visas serve different purposes, yet both contribute to Indonesia’s growth by attracting resources and expertise.
