WBP Lapas Kayuagung Actively Undergoes Training: From Land Cultivation to Maggot Raising

In the Kayuagung Correctional Facility (Lapas) in Indonesia, an active training program is being implemented to develop inmates’ self-sufficiency and productive skills. This program covers a wide range of activities, from agricultural production to the sorting and raising of larvae for livestock feed. Conducted under the guidance of Lapas staff and interns, these activities help inmates develop valuable skills that can be utilized in the future after release. The main goal of this program is to create favorable conditions for successful reintegration into society. Inmates start with land cultivation: clearing weeds and loosening the soil to prepare it for planting crops such as beans. Focus is given to organizing planting in a way that ensures optimal plant growth without excessive competition for nutrients. Additionally, inmates participate in maggot-sorting activities, separating them by size and quality. These larvae are then used as livestock feed or for other agricultural purposes. The training is divided into stages, allowing each participant to acquire as many practical skills as possible. Supervising staff and interns carefully monitor the program, ensuring a personalized approach and maximum learning benefits. As a result, inmates can gain not only professional skills but also confidence in their abilities, contributing to their successful return to society after serving their sentences.
