The Indonesian film industry continues to captivate audiences and showcase impressive results amid fierce competition with international films and streaming platforms. Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, proudly stated that local films remain the key players in the domestic market. In 2025, the number of viewers for Indonesian films reached 80.27 million, indicating the stable popularity of national products despite the dominance of digital media.

According to Fadli Zon, Indonesian films hold over 70% of the total screenings in national cinemas. The peak of popularity was achieved by the film ‘Agak Laen Menyala Pantiku,’ which became the highest-grossing film of the year in Indonesia, drawing more than 10.6 million viewers. The Minister expressed hope that Indonesians’ interest in cinema will only increase, and he will continue to encourage people to return to theaters.

Zon also noted that, while other countries are seeing declines in cinema attendance in favor of online platforms, for Indonesia, watching films on the big screen remains an important part of cultural economics. Future plans include developing projects that promote cinema-going culture, which the Minister believes should support sustainable audience growth.

The development of the Indonesian film industry surprises both local and international observers, serving as a source of national pride for its cultural heritage.
