During the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) CEO Hery Gunardi highlighted the immense potential for developing the financial technology (fintech) sector in Indonesia. Speaking at a panel discussion on sustainable finance and growth in emerging markets, Gunardi pointed out that the growing global investor interest fosters new collaboration opportunities within the country’s banking sector. He emphasized that fintech is an integral part of the financial ecosystem, closely linked to banking, divided into two main segments: lending and transactional payments. Gunardi highlighted the importance of risk management in fintech lending while assessing payment-based fintech as having promising prospects, supported by over 120 banks operating in the country. He concluded by stressing the significance of understanding local characteristics and needs for successful advancement in this field.
