Expert Believes New KUHAP Fails to Protect Society

Recent amendments to Indonesia’s Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) have sparked concern among experts and human rights advocates. Professor Sulistyowati Irianto from the University of Indonesia raised concerns that the reforms do not serve their original purpose of protecting society from crime and authoritative arbitrariness. Instead, the new KUHAP contains mechanisms that could suppress the majority lacking significant power, preserving the existing status quo.
