Fadli Zon: Indonesia Needs to Rediscover Its Identity

Jakarta, August 14, 2025 — Today, the GREAT Lecture forum titled “Cultural Polemics of Indonesian Humanity: New World and New Culture” took place at Golden Ballroom 2, Sultan Hotel Jakarta. The event featured Dr. H. Fadli Zon, Minister of Culture, as the main speaker, accompanied by experts from various disciplines including sociologist and writer Okky Madasari and the Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives Hetifah Sjaifuddin. The main theme was the reinvention of Indonesia’s cultural identity, focusing on the country’s historical dialogue on the richness and age of its culture. Fadli Zon emphasized the wealth of Indonesian culture, both tangible and intangible, highlighting its unique heritage recognized by UNESCO. However, he expressed concerns that the current cultural narrative in Indonesia faces threats of suppression and loss of diversity.
